Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology was started during the year 1980 under the auspicious of Adhichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust(R) with the blessings of Jagadguru Padmabhushana Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Maha Swamiji to provide technical and other professional education in the rural area of Chikmagalur, The land of Coffee.
AIT is located in lush green, Picturesque Salubrious Hillock of Chikmagalur town, which is famous for Coffee and Tea plantations. The pleasant climate and pleasure giving natural sights and lakes have claimed the figurative title for the city as the Kashmir of Karnataka.

Civil Engineering branch was started in the year 1980. With the inception of the college. The present intake of the Department is 120. The department is under the affiliation of VTU. The Department has been accredited by NBA in the year 2004 and 2008 and also ISO 9001-2008 certified.
The Department has well equipped laboratories and experienced staff to guide the students in their academic activities.
The Department has the consultancy cell which engages with testing of building materials and building designs. It also carry out quality inspection of civil engineering works of private and governament organizations.
Industrial Production Engineering branch was started in the year 1982. The department offers Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Industrial production and engineering and it has an intake of 30 students per year
Electrical & Electronics Engineering branch was started in the year
1980.The department is under the affiliation of Visvesvaraya Technological University.
The present intake of students to the department is
60. The Department has well equipped laboratories and experienced staff to guide the students in their academic activities
Electronics & communication Engineering branch was started in the year
1981. The department was under the affiliation of University of
Mysore from 1981 to 1992 & under Kuvempu University from 1992 to 1998. From 1998 onwards the department is under the affiliation of Visvesvaraya Technological University.
The present intake of students to the department is
120.The Department has faculty strength of 28.The students from different parts of the country are studying in the branch.
Environmental Engineering
The department was started in the year 1996 and was affiliated to Kuvempu University from 1996-1998. Now the department is affiliated to VTU Belgaum. The department has an intake of 30 students. It has highly qualified and experienced teachers with reputation in their areas of specialization. The department offers a full time B.E. Degree course in Environmental Engineering field and has been excelling in activities for the past eight years.
Apart from conducting academic programmes, seminars, workshops, training programmes are conducted for students, as well as for faculty members. A number of consultancy works are also being carried out. The department has signed ‘MoU’ with few leading consultants and companies to develop institution industry interaction for the benefit of students.
Computer Science and Engineering
The department of Computer Science and Engineering is established in the year 1986. It was affiliated to the Mysore University till 1992 and Kuvempu University during the period 1992 to 1997. At present it is affiliated to Vishvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. The alumni of the department are working in various reputed organizations in India and abroad. The department is accredited twice by National Broad of Accreditation, New Delhi.
It started with an annual intake of 30 students; gradually it has developed to accommodate 120 students in a year today. The department has well qualified, experienced staff members to train the students in their academic pursuit of excellence. The department has well equipped laboratories with state-of-the-art computing facilities. The students of this department have consistently performed well in the university examinations. Several university ranks have been scored in the erstwhile Mysore and Kuvempu Universities.
Facilities include Internet access, EDUSAT for the satellite based learning, most modern seminar hall and departmental library with adequate number of books, journals and magazines.
The counseling is conducted for the benefit of the students to discuss personal and career problems. Academic progress report of the students is monitored and communicated to their parents.
